Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cup flour
- 2 Tbs shortening
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 Tbs sugar
- 2 cups hot oil
- 1 tsp salt
- honey, cinnamon & sugar
Directions
- Combine dry ingredients and cut in chortening until like cornmeal.
- Add milk and mix just until holds together.
- Turn out on lightly floured surface; knead 1 minute.
- Cover & let rest for 1 hour.
- Roll into 12 x 15 rectangle.
- Cut into 3” squares.
- Heat oil to 370º.
- Drop a few pieces of dough at a time into the oil, turning once quickly so they will puff evenly.
- Turn back over & brown both sides.
- Drain on paper toweling.
- Serve hot with honey & cinnamon sugar.
- Can cover again after cutting into squares to have ready to cook at the end of a meal.
